◊ career history
Kanako began learning ballet at age 5. She studied with John Neumeier, Marianne Cruuse, Anatoli Nisnevich, and Kevin Haigen at Hamburg Ballet School from 1994.
She graduated in 1996 and stayed in Germany until 2002 as a member of Stuttgart Ballet.
In 2002 she joined The National Ballet of Canada and lived in Canada until 2006.
Then she relocated to Portugal where she performed in the National Ballet of Portugal from 2006 to 2008.
Her repertoires include various works choreographed by John Cranko, George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Mauro Bigozetti, James Kudelka, Heinz Spoerli, and Hans Van Manen.
She returned to Japan in 2008. With Kiyoko Kimura, she jointly established K2 Ballet Space, a classic ballet school in Minato-ku, Tokyo and its branch school in Yokohama in 2012.
At present, while she continues her stage career as a freelance dancer, she is committed to education of future dancers by sharing her wealth of experience abroad and global network.
